Nancy's Shih-tzus   

The Shih Tzu is one of the Chinese Imperial elegant temple dogs from China.  For numerous centuries these little Chinese Imperial dogs were house pets and personal property of several royal families in Imperial China.  They were hidden in the palace and beloved at court.  They were bred with the strictest selectivity and carefully screened to conform to the imperial ideal pet.  Only beautiful faced, smaller size type quality Shih Tzu’s were highly prized in the imperial court.  These Chinese Imperial dogs lived lives of luxury. Shih Tzu also has the nickname "Chrysanthemum Face". Hair on their face grows out in a circular direction, making the faces look like a flower. This Chinese Imperial non shed dog had won many hearts and quickly became one of the most popular toy breeds in America.  Although small in stature, Shih Tzus are strong and sturdy for their size, and should not give the impression of fragility.  They are free spirited, loving their owners, but not slavishly obedient. Shih Tzus prefer to think things out for themselves.

Shih Tzus come in many different colors, sizes, body shape and pedigrees. The appropriate color or size is a matter of your personal preference.  There is no way to order a specific size, color, or sex all in one.  Whatever color, size, sex or however marked, each one is special.  Shih Tzu’s coat colors change after birth. They can get lighter and lighter each month till about one year old (except black color). A Shih Tzu’s personality is a unique blend of charm, love, fun, self-importance, proving an irresistible combination.   They are active, alert, sweet, playful and somewhat stubborn. Their qualities make them good therapy dogs and good watchdogs. They might bark to let you know someone is at the door or they hear a strange noise outside, but will love them once they know they are your friends.  A Shih Tzu is one of the toy breeds that I do recommend for families with kids (With lots of supervision between the young children and the puppy).
